Chicago Finally Hosts UFC Again January 28

UFC mixed martial arts is coming back to Chicago for the first time since 2008. The event will take place January 28, 2012 and tickets go on sale Friday December 9. The event will take place close to downtown at the United Center.

This is big news for many reasons:

  • Rich history of MMA in Chicago
  • Chicago has watched the UFC hit surrounding cities multiple times over the past several years
  • Launching Fox 7 year contract with the UFC – should be huge win-win for both entities
  • Local mixed martial artists have a chance to really stand out

Bouts will include a headline fight with Rashad Evans of Chicago and Phil Davis. Chael Sonnen will fight Mark Munoz, while Michael Bisping will take on Demian Maia.

The UFC, the world’s most prominent mixed martial arts promotion, last was in the Chicago market for the UFC 90 pay-per-view in October 2008 at Allstate Arena. UFC President Dana White said the time was right to return to Chicago — and with the first
